ASP Grade-4 Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure Makes History in Huntington Beach

ASP Grade-4 Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure Makes History in Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Monday, June 23, 2008) – The
Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure presented by Jack’s returns to South Huntington
Beach Pier for two days, June 29-30, 2008. The event has upgraded
considerably this season to an Association of Surfing Professionals
(ASP) Grade-4 event, making it the highest rated ASP Pro Junior ever in
North America.

As an ASP Grade-4, the Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure presented by Jack’s
boasts a $20,000 prize purse and ample points up for grabs, ensuring
the event will have a major impact on the 2008 ASP North America Pro
Junior ratings. First place will receive $3,500 and 1,500 points, which
is the equivalent to winning three ASP Grade-2 events.

“Pier Pressure reflects Nike 6.0’s mission to elevate the next
generation,” Jason Kenworthy, Nike 6.0 Surf Mentor said. “This event
provides a great opportunity and stepping stone for young surfers in
North America.”

The field of 80 competitors includes 2007 ASP North America Pro Junior
Champion Adam Wickwire (Satellite Beach, FL) in the top seed position,
followed by current ratings leader on the ASP North America Pro Junior
Series Cory Arrambide (Ventura, CA), Travis Beckman (Vero Beach, FL),
and 2006 ASP North America Junior Champion Eric Geiselman (New Smyrna
Beach, FL), who will all begin their run for the Pier Pressure title
from the round of 32.

Also gracing this year’s event will be west coast standouts Andrew
Doheny (Newport Beach, CA), Brent Reilly (Carlsbad, CA), Nat Young
(Santa Cruz, CA) and Riley Metcalf (San Clemente, CA).

A Hawaiian contingent, including Nike 6.0 wildcards Kai Barger (Haiku,
HI) and Dusty Payne (Lahaina, HI), as well as Keanu Asing (Oahu, HI)
and Granger Larsen (Lahaina, HI), will add to the already-incredible
talent pool. International superstar Julian Wilson (Coolum Beach, QLD)
will lead the overseas invasion.

The live event webcast will air at www.nike6pierpressure.com and will
feature all the daily surfing action, blow-by-blow live scoring and ins
by special surprise guests. The webcast will be hosted by industry
icons Dave Stansfield, big-wave surfer Pete Mel, former ASP World Tour
great Pat O’Connell and Surfer Magazine Editor Chris Mauro.

The Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure presented by Jack’s is supported by Nike
6.0, Jack’s Surfboards, Hurley, Red Bull, Surfer Magazine, Surfing
